Room for Joy began creating bedrooms for chronically ill children more than three years ago. We obtained our 501(c) 3 status with an effective date of exemption, March 8, 2006. Room for Joy completes rooms for children as soon as funding permits. There is a waiting list of children.
The CEO of Room for Joy, Tory Smock, has a degree in Interior Design and a passion for children. After working in a retail setting utilizing her design skills for 14 years, she was inspired to combine her love of design and her love for children, thus the inception of Room for Joy. Tory has personally battled a chronic illness her entire life and spent much of her childhood in and out of doctor’s offices and hospitals. Subsequently, Tory is the parent of a child who suffers from the same affliction. Because she has experienced both sides, she is able to relate to the children and the parents. Tory knows the impact a child’s surroundings can have on their healing process and recognized the need to provide an atmosphere of love and hope to children and their parents.
